My Gingerbread house 2009
Posted on December 24th, 2009 in Cake Lounge, Seasonal
This year I wanted to make my Gingerbread house a little more “simple”, only decorating it with white royal icing. I have used different styles of piping details inspired by the Gingerbread houses from Martha Stewart. It is very Scandinavian, I think
Like last year, I have added electric lights inside the house and I think it looks so charming when the lights burst out through the windows. I always give the Gingerbread house to my MIL and she first threw out last years Gingerbread house a couple of month ago. So I am a bit excited to see how long she will keep this one
Happy Caking and merry Christmas to all of you!
Louise

How pretty and so simple! I had my first try at making one this year and it wasmuch harder than I thought! I did find that I could cover up and hide a lot of faults with candy and icing!

It’s beautiful, Louise. Thank you for all your great ideas and for all your teachings. I saw Martha Stewart had a gingerbread cake house this year in her Holiday Sweets issue and I was very excited. Maybe I’ll attempt that since I think it will be harder for me to put all those walls and roof together in a real gingerbread house. Lights inside! I’m sure the little ones will be excited.

I love the all-white icing! I never would have thought to do a gingerbread house without lots of candy decorations, but this looks so pretty!

I love your gingerbread house. So simple and not covered with those weird neon candies that come in the kits. Your house puts mine to shame. Mine has no windows (the icing hardened to fast) so I named it my gingerbread shed.
I’m definitely going to keep your style in mind for next year.
Merry Christmas!

Your gingerbread is SO cute! I love the all white icing. You should stop by and see the cookies I made for the cookie party I had. You will be able to appreciate them. Have a great Holiday season!

Happy Holidays and New Year!
Could I ask you about tiered cakes? How do you stack them on top of each other without getting them to crack or ‘sink’

Wow, that looks amazing! I have a problem with my own royal icing dots though, I can’t seem to make them without the little spiky “tail” coming off. How do you make yours so nice and rounded?
Thanks!

Beautiful, as usual! Actually, I was surprised when I saw this, because I decided to make a simpler house this year as well– here are some pictures, if you would care to see.

Natalie: Please look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qu9ZtV51RM&NR=1&feature=fvwp The next one is a really great dvd that will help you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3sXpFymoRY&feature=related
Alice: What you do is have a little water and a little paint brush ready when you pipe dots. When you have piped 4-5 dots take your slightly dampen brush and carefully press down the “tail” Dont make more than 4-5 dots at a time because as the RI dries it is harder to do it nicely.
Naomi: Ohh that is a pretty GB. I just cant work out the chimney part. So thats why my GB houses never has a chimney.
