Knitting basket cake

Posted on July 25th, 2007 in Cake Lounge

I have been working on a cake for a birthday party the last couple of days. The person have her own yarn shop so what would be better than to make a knitting basket cake :)

I have used Patchwork Cutters to make the Basketweave emboss and used my indispensable sugar gun to make all the strands of wool.

I can highly recomend to use that tool because it makes strands, ropes and borders much easier to make.

I have paintet the basket with brown powder dust mixed with clear alcohol and I have used some barbecue sticks to do it as knitting needles.

Happy Caking

I am really pleased with the way it turned out. It can be difficult to make cakes and have the kids around you at the same time. I love my sugar gun. It can save you from pains.

Andrea, I still only make to my friends and family. As It is very hard to find the right shop and it is so expensive to. But I hope one day I can open my little cake store.

  9. I love it!!! How creative of you to come up with something like this!!!

  10. By the way, what are the knitting balls made of ? Round cakes, sugarpaste ?

The yarn balls are cake blended with buttercream rolled into shape and chilled. I have covered them with a thin layer of rolled fondant and then applied the strands of “yarn” with the sugar gun and some sugar glue.
