I have been playing with the cookie dough lately and made a lot of cute cupcake cookie lollies? or simply just cookies on a sticks. These cupcake cookies have been on my “to do list” for a very long time and I finally had a go making them. I dont have a speciel cupcake cookie cutter so I sat down and draw a template myself. I am very satisfied how they turned out and I have more cake inspired cookies on the way because I had a great time decorating them.

They are so pretty!! And your icing is perfect. If you use royal icing, how do you spread it over the cookies? It is very smooth and not dry. What is your secret?

Hey, I jsut stumbled upon this for the first time, so I aplogize if you cover this a lot, but
a)do you cut the cookies post- or pre- baking?
b)how doyou stick the sticks in the cookies? Bake them in? Stick them in afterwards? How do you stop the cookie from splitting/breaking around the stick?

I can see that many of you are interested in how I made them and therefor I will try making a small tutorial and I will make sure that everyone who is interested can get the template I made. Just be a little patience…. Untill it is ready I will try reply your questions:-)
I cut out the cookies with a small sharp knife. I find it best to cut while the cookies dough is still cold and NOT baked. If there are any rough edges I carefully smoothe with my finger.
After the cookies is cut I take a lolly stick and twist it into the cookie. carefully turn the cookie over and cover up with some dough. This fab trick can be seen on Karens Cookies:http://www.karenscookies.net/shop/cookie-projects-baking-cookie-pops/info_46.html
When I do the flooding I make sure that it is a thin and runny icing and I use one of those brilliant squeze bottles. The icing set up more even and smooth by doing it this way. I thin down with water.
Whenever you do the out lining of the cookie or the details when the flooding icing is dry I use a soft icing.
Yes it would be great if I could get this one into a real cookie cutter!!!

Love the cookies..maybe you know this already but there is a great website called “kitchen collectibles” http://www.kitchengifts.com, it’s a workshop in the US that makes a wide range of copper cookie cutters. I think peggy porschen buys some of her cutters from there. I saw a cup-cake cookie cutter (look under ‘food’) and I think they also custom make anything you want! They also ship internationally. I live in Dubai and ordered so many things from there and they were so great to deal with!!

Cupcake cookies really are fun, aren’t they? I made some myself a few weeks ago, and the creative freedom with making these little cookies is amazing!

I made your cookies (are in my postream) with the template and the are beautiful for me, never as yours, of course!!! the edges came out rough… i now have the trick to smooth it with my finger.
Ill be waiting for the tutorial and the recipe for the icing, because it didnt turned so perfect as yours.

Thank you Louise for sharing these adorable cookies with us. Do you have a special recipe for sugar cookies to keep them from falling off the lolli sticks I can’t seem to keep mine attached to the sticks. I have tried several different recipes and haven’t had any success. I’ve noticed if I roll the dough too thick it loses it shape and if it’s to thin it falls off. Help! Thanks:)

Kimberley: I just use a regular sugar cookie dough without baking powder. I do roll it out a bit thicker. Try look here Karenscookies.net there is a great how to on how to make cookies on sticks and there are nice recipes as well.

Dear Louise, I just wanted to let you know, that I love your blog! The things you are creating are amazing!
By the way I love the “cookie-pop” idea :-)!!! Very creative!

I really related to the ” cookie template” story, since I did a similar thing for a really small guitars for a cake that was for a friend of mine. I remember that 24 guitars as small as a half a finger took me almost 4 hours to cut, then to paint them and add small details…oh, just thinking of it is exhausting
But it was rewarding, as in your case- amazing cookies came to this world.
Give me some advice, how do you get people to comment on your blog :-D, I’ve been bloging myself almost a year, I have really good amount of traffic on the website, but nobody ever comments anything!

Sometimes templates must be the way if you cant find cutters ect.
Btw I know it is a bit late, but did you know that FMM have a tappit set with a small guitar? http://www.fmmsugarcraft.com/pages/fullprod.php?id=48 Still I like when people makes the decoration all by them self (more personal) but sometimes short cuts is the way.
For your question on how to get more comments I must say I really dont know. Thats the thing with blogging you never know if it will hit or fail. I just write….:-)

Louise, I know about the tappit set, but the problem was that I came up with the ideathe day before the actual birthday, at 2 am in the morning :-). It’s hard to find cutters with this time range

Same thing happened to me with my own birthday cake- there are million heart cutters, but the only store around us that is open 24/7 is Walmart, and they didn’t have it, so I made a heart template and cut by hand 40 hearths with a heart shape whole in the middle. Call me crazy
